We are the proud owners of two yellow vehicles this week, as every tree in a 100-mile radius decided to produce as much pollen as possible at the same exact time.
Despite the blanket of new allergens covering every outside surface, spring really is my favorite season. Around the end of February, I start scrutinizing every tree I drive by on the road to see if it’s finally started blooming yet.
The green of spring isn’t like the green of summer; it’s brighter, fresher, younger than the rich, almost blue-greens that we’ll see in just a few months. And the flowers! I forget how much blooms this time of year, and how welcome it always is after months of gray dormancy. Cherry blossoms, wisteria, tulip trees, dandelions, daffodils—the earth really does seem to cry out in celebration once the warm weather returns.
As we welcome in the season, I wanted to take a moment to slow down and thank God for the way he shows himself through the beauty of spring.
Enjoy the prayer, and let me know what you love about spring in the comments!
To the God of new life
A prayer for spring
Glorious God,
You are the Creator, Sustainer, and Renewer of all things.
Spring is the season of death giving way to life.
As gray landscapes yield to buds of gold, yellow, and green,
I will turn to you in praise because you are the source of all life.
Physical life begins with the breath of your animating Spirit.
All that exists is sustained and upheld by your hand,
dependent on your perfect and unwavering attention.
Spiritual life, too, is yours.
The depths of my sinfulness are not too great for you;
the light of your love penetrates
even the darkest recesses of my heart.
You are not just the God of life—you are the Living God,
incarnated as a man,
experiencing the trials and limitations of embodiment,
yet ultimately glorious over sin and death
and now alive, reigning forever from glory to glory.
Impress upon my heart the miracle of life this season.
Remind me that you are a God who is doing miracles even now.
Show me your glory in the gold, yellow, and green.
Amen.
